            PROFILE OF THE TELUGU DEPARTMENT

THE FIRST GOVERNMENT INSTITUTION IN COASTAL ANDHRA

The Govt.College, Rajamahendravaram is established in the year 1853 as High School and upgraded to Degree college in 1876. This institution is at first affiliated to Madras University. Later after the Establishment of the Andhra University, this college has been under affiliation of Andhra University From 2012 this prestigious institution is affliated to Adikavi Nannayya University,Rajahmundry.

LITERARY HERITAGE OF RAJAHMUNDRY CITY

Everybody who speaks Telugu knew that Rajahmundry is the birth place of Telugu Kavya Literature i.e. Telugu Adikavyam Andhra Mahabharata by the Adikavi Nannayya.  Many centuries, Rajahmundry is the Cultural Capital and the traditional is being carried out from Nannayya till today. Many Telugu poets   visited the river Godavari or resided on the banks of this holy river.' Kavisarvabhouma' srinadha the great Telugu poet resided and wrote “Bhimakanda” related to Andhra Pradesh.

In modern times stalwarts like Rao Saheb Sri.Kandukuri veeresalingam pantulu garu and Sri. Chilakamarthi Lakshmi Narasimha Pantulu garu were the natives of Rajahmundry Great poets like Tirupathi Venkata Kavulu, Vaddadi Subbaraya kavi, Vavilala Vasu Deva Sastry, Vaddadi Vasurayakavi,Sripada Subramanya Sastry and first poet Laureate of A.P state. sri Sripada Krishna murthy, 'Haasya Brahma' sri Bhamidipati Kameswara Rao hail from this Historical town

In the recent times Nedunuri Gangadharam  collected Folk literature from various sources. Critics like Sri. Mallam palli Sarabhaiah and great poet Sri. Madhunapantula Satyanarayana Sastry , Kusuma Dharmana  added feathers to the crown of this town.

GLORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

With all this cultural and literacy background, this Telugu Dept has ancient and rich cultural heritage. Rao Bahadur Kandukuri Veeresalingam Pantulu, who is recognized as one of the social reformers of south India , strived hard for the  upliftment of women in the society and the “YUGAKARTHA”of modern literature worked in this department.

Sri. Vaddadi Subbarayakavi who is one of the founders of 'Gowthami library' now known as Gowthami Regional Research Library also worked in this Department.  Sri. Sampat Raghava Chary and Sri.P. V.Rajamannar of Telugu Department  worked as the Principal and elevated the stature of this college. Sri.V.V.L Narasimha Rao,  former Professor of Andhra University Korlapati Sriramurthy also worked in this Department. Telugu Etymological Dictionary Director Prof.L. Chakradhara Rao is an alumni of this Department.

8. The best practice of the Department is to explain “POEM” twice in every week.

9. Department has Training center for UGC NET JRF and other “Competitive Exams”.   

10.Consistency in pass percentage i.e. above 95%.

  • Promote Telugu language in spoken and written forms, both within India and internationally.
