The Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest and most prestigious departments of Government (Autonomous) College, Rajahmundry. Established in 1891, along with the college’s affiliation to the University of Madras, the department has been at the forefront of mathematical education for more than a century. Over the years, it has earned a distinguished reputation for academic excellence, innovation, and student success.

Today, the department is one of the largest academic departments in the institution, catering to nearly 1,600 students annually and offering diverse programmes that align with evolving academic and industry requirements.

 Historical Milestones

The department has consistently expanded its academic offerings to meet emerging educational trends and societal needs.

 1930 – Introduction of the B.Sc. programme with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

 1959 – Launch of new B.Sc. combinations:

   Mathematics – Physics – Geology

   Mathematics – Chemistry – Geology

 1971–1972 – Introduction of the M.Sc. Mathematics programme, making the college the first institution in Andhra Pradesh after Andhra University to offer postgraduate studies in Mathematics.

 2000–2001 – Introduction of restructured programmes:

   Mathematics – Statistics – Computer Science

   Mathematics – Physics – Computer Science

 2008–2009 – Addition of interdisciplinary combinations:

   Mathematics – Economics – Statistics

   Mathematics – Physics – Electronics

 2017–2018 – Launch of specialized programmes:

   Mathematics – Statistics – Actuarial Science

   Mathematics – Statistics – Econometrics

 2018–2019 – Introduction of innovative combinations:

   Mathematics – Physics – Renewable Energy
