The Women Empowerment Cell of Government College (Autonomous), Rajahmundry , organized International Girl Child Day on 12 October 2025 with the objective of creating awareness among students about the importance of girl child education, rights, safety, and health.
The programme began with the welcome note delivered by the Women Empowerment Cell Coordinator, who highlighted the theme of the year and emphasized the need for providing equal opportunities to girls in all fields.
Chief Guest for the occasion was Smt. T.Sridevi , District Project Director, Child Development, Kadapa. Addressing the students, she shed light on various government schemes aimed at girl child protection and empowerment such as skill development programmes, adolescent health guidance, self-defense training, and opportunities for higher education. She motivated the students to aim high, work hard, and be confident leaders in society.
The Chief Guest stated that girls today have limitless potential in science, arts, sports, and entrepreneurship, and it is the responsibility of society to provide them with a safe and supportive environment. She particularly stressed issues like child safety, mental health, menstrual hygiene, cyber awareness, and career readiness.
The programme was presided over by Principal, Dr. Ramachandra RK , who encouraged students to make use of available government resources and
college facilities that promote girls’ education and empowerment. he appreciated the efforts of the Women Empowerment Cell in continuously working for the welfare of girl students through seminars, workshops, and training sessions.
As a special highlight of the programme, Ch.manga Devi ,Women Police Circle Inspector, addressed the students and demonstrated the use of the Shakti Mobile App, one of the key safety initiatives of Andhra Pradesh Police. She explained the app’s features including:
Emergency alert facility Location tracking for safety Direct contact with police within seconds Safety alerts for women in distress
She encouraged all girl students to download and use the app for their own safety, and advised them to stay confident, aware, and well-informed about their rights.
Faculty members, NSS,NCC coordinators, WEC team, and students actively participated in the event. Cultural activities and awareness talks by students highlighted the importance of protecting, educating, and empowering the girl child.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Women Empowerment Cell, expressing gratitude to the Chief Guest, dignitaries, organizers, and participants.
